About the Author

Hello, I’m Chandni, a researcher and designer who has spent twelve years building tech products, and from the insider experience of knowing how business models are built, I ask uncomfortable questions about their effect on society. It’s led me to a more critical study of technology systems: how platforms impact labor, how fintech reshapes economies, how governments digitize their relationship with citizens.

I’m interested in the aspects of tech that get regulated, automated, obscured or even weaponised. My research combines computational methods with political economy frameworks, focused on India and comparative global contexts.

The through-line: I’m drawn to complex systems and the human decisions embedded within them.

I was born and raised in Chennai and have since lived in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Berlin, Nairobi, and now New York. I’m an insatiably curious person who often finds herself deep in rabbit holes and tries to bring back interesting stories—sometimes as data essays, sometimes as illustrated children’s books, sometimes as obsessively detailed digital archives on hyper-specific topics. Hence this website, a digital-garden, an archive of intellectual adventures.

Outside of work, I maintain a rotating set of hobbies: printmaking, brush lettering, botanical illustration, designing little apps for friends, volunteering at the local library and public schools. I get excited by good metaphors, unexpected connections, and discovering evidence of thoughtfulness in the built environment.

This site is where I keep my research, writing, past projects, and ongoing experiments. Some of it is polished; some of it is thinking in public, written for starting conversations. If you’re interested in technology and society, design as inquiry, or the occasional well-constructed tangent—welcome. I hope you find something worth staying for.
